In April 2009, Steven Munatones of the World Open Water Swimming Association proposed a number of alternative Triple Crown swims based on the original Triple Crown of Open Water Swimming (English Channel + Catalina Channel + Manhattan Island Marathon Swim). Similar to the Triple Crown of Thoroughbred Racing that can be defined differently, there are a number of alternative definitions for achievements of the original Triple Crown of Open Water Swimming.
