Bacalar Lagoon
Bacalar Lagoon (or Lake Bacalar) is a 2 km wide, 60 km long, narrow freshwater lake in the state of Quintana Roo in Mexico near Mexico's border with Belize. It is located is in the southern Yucatan peninsula and offers clean fresh water fed to the lagoon through underwater rivers and springs. It is renowned for its striking blue color and water clarity, partly the result of having a white limestone bottom. It is a short drive away from the Caribbean Sea and is the second largest freshwater lake in Mexico.
