Santa Barbara Channel Islands

Captain Bob Andrieux is an escort boat pilot with the Santa Barbara Channel Swimming Association. He is the captain of the Tuna Thumper, a 42-foot dual-engine vessel moored out of Ventura Harbor in California, USA. Captain Bob and his first mate Mike Bewley have an unusual piloting streak in their Santa Barbara Channel solo crossings: he has never had a swimmer enter the water and not finish a swim.

The Santa Barbara Channel Swimming Association (SBCSA) supports and sanctions open water swims to, from, and between 7 of the 8 channel islands in the off the coast of Southern California, USA.

Swim in the 8th channel island, Catalina Island, has a separate governing body, the Catalina Channel Swimming Federation.
