Bolinas

Bolinas is an unincorporated coastal community in Marin County, California. The census-designated place is located on the California coast, approximately 13 miles (21 km) northwest of San Francisco by air.
The community is known for its reclusive residents. It is only accessible via unmarked roads; any road sign along State Route 1 that points the way into town has been torn down by local residents, to the point where county officials held a ballot measure to which the voters responded by stating a preference for no more signs.
It was also the site of the first crossing from the Farallon Islands to the California mainland on August 27th 1967 by Lieutenant Colonel Stewart Evans.
