British Long Distance Swimming Association


noun - British Long Distance Swimming Association (BLDSA) is an open water swimming association founded in 1956 and is one of the world's oldest governing bodies of open water swimming. It functions due to the hard work of its passionate volunteers and experienced officials and officers. The association governs open water swims, relays and marathon swims throughout Great Britain.

- It has been recognized as an Honor Organisation by the International Marathon Swimming Hall of Fame in the Class of 2002.
- It was the 2003 recipient of the Irving Davids-Captain Roger Wheeler Memorial Award, an award given by the International Swimming Hall of Fame.

Annual Awards
- James Brennan Memorial Trophy is presented for services to the British Long Distance Swimming Association. The trophy was donated to recognise the members of the BLDSA who have given noteworthy service to the Executive Committee or other administrative functions so essential to the smooth running of a growing association.
- Harry Moffat Memorial Trophy is presented for outstanding services on the water throughout the season. It can be awarded to a group or team.
- Hans Belay Trophy is presented to recognise an outstanding swim by a BLDSA member during the year as an individual effort or within a championship without receiving an award from that championship. It can be awarded to a group or team.
- Fred Slater Trophy is presented to the swimmer of the year in BLDSA events who has demonstrated outstanding effort throughout the season.
- Tom Butcher Trophy is presented to the Junior swimmer of the year in BLDSA events who has demonstrated outstanding effort throughout the season.
- Elise Brook Encouragement and Perseverance Trophy is presented to recognise an outstanding swim by a BLDSA member as a junior during the year as a individual effort or within a championship without receiving an award from that championship.
- Breaststroke Trophy is presented to recognise the ability and dedication of any breaststroke swimmer during the season.
- Avril and Alan Mitchell Trophy is presented to recognise the ability and dedication of a veteran swimmer during the season.
- William Keating Trophy is awarded for an outstanding swim on Windermere in the season (minimum single length course, solo or relay by a member/members of the BLDSA.
