FINA Open Water Swimming Grand Prix race start in Cozumel, Mexico
Isla Cozumel (English: Island of the Swallows) is a stunningly gorgeous island in the Caribbean Sea off the eastern coast of Mexico's Yucatán Peninsula, opposite Playa del Carmen, and close to the Yucatán Channel. Cozumel is one of the ten municipalities (municipios) of the Mexican state of Quintana Roo. Cozumel is a tourist destination for its balnearios, scuba diving, and snorkeling. The main town on the island is San Miguel de Cozumel.
Open Water Swimming
- Cozumel is site of two marathon swims on the FINA 10K Marathon Swimming World Cup pro circuit and the FINA Open Water Swimming Grand Prix pro circuit in April (Maratón Cozumel)
- Oceanman Cozumel is part of the 2016 Oceanman International Open Water Circuit that features five open water swimming events in different locations, each organized by Aida Molina and Culture Sport 365. The top ten finishers in the Oceanman event in Cozumel qualify for the Oceanman World Championship in Benidorm.
- It is the start of the 32 km Mexican English Channel organized by Nora Toledano and the Mexican Open Water Association.
