Dan Richards
Dan Richards is an American open water swimmer from Arlington, Tennessee who is a member of the Half Century Club and the Triple Crown of Open Water Swimming as well as a lifetime member of the Catalina Channel Swimming Federation. Richards and his brother Scott Richards, M.D. are the only siblings in history to complete the Triple Crown of Open Water Swimming. He has completed 3 of the 7 Oceans Seven channels to date.
Marathon Swimming Career
- On 19 April 2008, he finished 5th in the 46 km Tampa Bay Marathon Swim in Florida in 9 hours 11 minutes 12 seconds at the age of 51.
- On 1 October 2008, he completed a 42.4 km crossing of the Catalina Channel from Santa Catalina Island to the Southern California mainland in 14 hours 59 minutes 24 seconds at the age of 52.
- On 20 July 2010, he completed a 44.8 km crossing of the English Channel from England to France in 12 hours 42 minutes at the age of 54.
- On 18 June 2011, he finished 10th in the 45.9 km Manhattan Island Marathon Swim in New York City in 8 hours 5 minutes 48 seconds at the age of 54 to complete the Triple Crown of Open Water Swimming and the Grand Slam of Open Water Swimming.
- On 26 June 2014, he completed a 14.4 km crossing of the Strait of Gibraltar from Spain to Morocco in 4 hours 29 minutes at the age of 56 to complete three Oceans Seven channels.
