Captain Dave Kinley was the escort pilot for Ted Erikson's attempted crossing from the Farallon Islands to the Golden Gate Bridge in the Pacific Ocean in 1966 together with Paul Girard, his wife Nancy, Ike Papke, Fred Kluck and nurse Betty Davis, and on his successful crossing in 1967 together with Paul Girard and Doug Lathrop, Frank Drum of the Dolphin Club as the observer, Jerry Thompson, Duncan Mcleod as a pace swimmer, John Parents as a pace swimmer, Colonel Stuart Evans as a pace swimmer, Ted Moffet, and Captain Hank Schram of the yacht Salmon Queen.
