Duke Paoa Kahinu Mokoe Hulikohola Kahanamoku (24 August 1890 – 22 January 1968) is one of the most celebrated watermen in world history. Kahanamoku was a Hawaii-born 5-time Olympic medalist in swimming, an actor, lawman, early beach volleyball player, renowned lifeguard, and businessman credited with spreading the sport of surfing. He is member of the Hawaii Swimming Hall of Fame in the Class of 2002 and was inducted in the International Swimming Hall of Fame as an Honor Swimmer in the Class of 1965.

Olympic Record

He won an Olympic gold medal for the first time in the Stockholm 1912 Olympic Games. At the 1920 Antwerp Olympics he won his second 100-meter freestyle and another gold medal in the 4x200m relay (where he was teammates with Norman Ross). "The Duke", as he was commonly known, also won two silver medals in 1912 and at the 1924 Paris Olympics.

Surfing

As a passionate surfer, between his Olympic Games, The Duke traveled the world for swimming exhibitions where he presented and promoted surfing around the world. For that, Kahanamoku became also known by his nickname, the "Father of Surfing".

Waterman the movie is a documentary film directed by Isaac Halasima and produced by David Ulich and Dr. Steven Ungerleider. The film explores the global journey, the challenges, and the legacy of the five-time Olympic medalist from Hawaii.
