Gene Belshe started the Huntington Beach Pier Swim 64 years ago and was the first full-time, paid lifeguard in Huntington Beach, California. He is the namesake of the Gene Belshe Memorial Perpetual Trophy that is awarded to the top team of the annual Huntington Beach Pier Swim.
