George Hunihan

George Hunihan is an American member of the Half Century Club for his swimming of the English Channel on 22 August 2008 at the age of 54 under the auspices of the Channel Swimming & Piloting Federation in 16 hours 30 minutes. He also completed the Manhattan Island Marathon Swim on 6 June 2009 in 8 hours 41 minutes, the Little Red Lighthouse Swim, Statue of Liberty Swim and several other open water swims including Big Shoulders in Chicago, the Boston Light Swim in Boston, the Alcatraz Sharkfest in San Francisco, the Peaks to Portland Swim in Maine, and the inaugural Cold Water Challenge in Fairfield, Connecticut.

He is also the namesake of the George Hunihan, For the Love of the Swim Award, annually awarded by the Kingdom Swim in Vermont, USA.
