Igor de Souza

Igor de Souza is an open water swimming administrator for the Brazilian Swimming Federation and race director for the FINA 10K Marathon Swimming World Cup race in Santos, Brazil, and a former professional marathon swimmer.
Honors
He was inducted in the International Marathon Swimming Hall of Fame in 2004 as an Honour Swimmer.
Open Water Swimming Career
- On 10 August 1992, he finished 13th in the Sylvan Lake World Series Marathon Swim in Alberta, Canada.
- He completed a two-way crossing of the English Channel in 1997 in 18 hours 33 minutes where he negative-split his swim (9:31 + 9:02). During his 18:33 swim, his first (9 hours 31 minutes) and second (9 hours 2 minutes) legs were the fastest times for crossings in that year.
- He swam the English Channel in 11 hours 6 minutes in 1996 as the best male time of the year by the Channel Swimming Association.
- He was the fastest man in the 48 km (28.5-mile) Manhattan Island Marathon Swim in 1994 in 7 hours 8 minutes.
- He finished third in the 48 km (28.5-mile Manhattan Island Marathon Swim in 1991 in 7 hours 19 minutes.
- He finished sixth in the 48 km (28.5-mile Manhattan Island Marathon Swim in 1998 in 7 hours 48 minutes.
- He won the 48 km (28.5-mile Manhattan Island Marathon Swim in 2001 in 7 hours 19 minutes.
- He started swimming International Marathon Swimming Association events in 1985 and was ranked in the top 10 between 1987 and 1994. For 15 years, he competed all over the world, winning some races and finishing all.
- He swam 36 km (22.5-mile) Around-the-Island Marathon Swim in Atlantic City, USA a total of ten times.
