Irene van der Laan (born 1960) is a 60-year-old Dutch open water swimmer who has competed as a professional marathon swimmer for over 4 decades and and International Ice Swimming Association official.

- She was inducted in the International Marathon Swimming Hall of Fame in 1985 as an Honour Swimmer.
- She was inducted in the International Swimming Hall of Fame in 2015 as an Honor Open Water Swimmer.
- She was the first person to win the Rolex watch two times for the fastest crossings in the English Channel of the year in 1982 and 1984.
- She was named to the list of World's 50 Most Adventurous Open Water Women by the World Open Water Swimming Association in 2015.

- She swam across the English Channel in 1979 and completed a double-crossing in 1984, establishing a new record and fastest swim of the year on her first leg.
- On 10 August 1992, she finished 10th in the Sylvan Lake World Series Marathon Swim in Alberta, Canada.
- She was the first women in several events on the World Professional Marathon Swimming Federation circuit during the 1980’s.
- She was still swimming in major international events until 2014.
- She competed in the 64 km (40-mile) Traversée internationale du lac St-Jean in 19 hours 5 minutes in 1986.
- She competed in the 64 km (40-mile) Traversée internationale du lac St-Jean in 18 hours 15 minutes in 1987.

- She competed in the 40 km (25-mile) Traversée internationale du lac St-Jean in 10 hours 54 minutes in 1990.

- She has done hundreds of marathon swims during one of the longest careers in history including 22 consecutive Faros Maratón swims in Croatia.
- On 6 July 1991, she finished 28th in the 46 km Maratona del Golfo Capri-Napoli in Italy in 8 hours 44 minutes 14 seconds at the age of 40.
- She holds the 55-59 age group world record in the ice kilometer in 16:06:98 on 21 January 2018 in 4.6°C water and 4.0°C air in pool.
- She serves on the board of directors of the International Ice Swimming Association Netherlands.
- She finished 18th overall in the Ice Kilometer at the 4rd International Ice Swimming Association World Championship held in Murmansk, Russia in March 2019 at the age of 59.
- On 10 September 2019, she finished 7th in the 16 km Faros Maratón in Hvar Island, Croatia at the age of 59.
- In 2019, she completed the 50th annual 22 km Ijsselmeer Zwemmarathon in the Netherlands, finishing 16th overall in 8:30:23.76 with escort pilot Thijs Viegers.
- On 10 September 2019, she finished 8th in the 16 km Faros Maratón in Hvar Island, Croatia in 4:40:37 at the age of 59.
- On 27 January 2017, she completed an Ice Mile in 4.1°C water in 27 minutes 41 seconds in Volendam, Netherlands.
- On 10 August 1992, she finished 10th in the Sylvan Lake World Series Marathon Swim in Alberta, Canada.
- She finished 9th in the 36.2 km Atlantic City Around The Island Swim in Atlantic City, New Jersey on 12 August 1989.
International Marathon Swimming Hall of Fame
In addition to being an Honour Swimmer, she served as a member of the board of directors of the International Marathon Swimming Hall of Fame prior to organizational structural changes in 2015.
