Gertrude Ederle and Istak Helmy
Ishak Helmy is an Egyptian open water swimmer who was inducted in the International Marathon Swimming Hall of Fame as an Honour Swimmer in 1980.
Helmy was the ninth person to successfully cross the English Channel when he swam from France to England in 23 hours 40 minutes on 31 August 1928 under the auspices of the Channel Swimming Association. It was his sixth attempt.
Escorting
He crewed for and helped rescue Gertrude Ederle on her English Channel attempt in 1925.
