John Koorey is a member of the Australian Marathon Swimming Hall of Fame Class of 2020
John Koorey is an Australian open water swimmer and former president of the Australian Marathon Swimming Federation.
Open Water Swimming Career[edit]
- crossed the English Channel in 10 hours 32 minutes in 1969 from France to England ratified by the Channel Swimming Association
- crossed the Cook Strait from South Island to North Island on 1 February 1981 in 5 hours 37 minutes, setting a record across the channel in New Zealand that remains the third fastest crossing in history
- crossed the Cook Strait from North Island to South Island on 28 February 1981 in 6 hours 59 minutes at the age of 42
- won the 55-59 age group at the 2001 Waikiki Roughwater Swim in Hawaii
- he served as the president of the Australian Marathon Swimming Federation and on the Australian Long-Distance Swimming Federation, first formed in 1973.
