Loren King

Loren King is a 49-year-old Canadian open water swimmer from Hamilton, Ontario, a professor at Wilfrid Laurier University, and an advocate for the Great Lakes. She serves as a Marathon Swimming Mentor.
Open Water Swimming Career Highlights
- In 2012, he competed in the 8 km English Bay Challenge, finishing in 2 hours 54 minutes 45 seconds in a wetsuit.
- In 2012, he competed in the 10 km Eton Swim, finishing in 2 hours 20 minutes 45 seconds in a wetsuit.
- In 2012, he competed in the LOST 10 km swim in 3 hours 3 minutes 37 seconds.
- In 2013, he competed in the 10 km Elma Couture Open Water Swim, finishing in 2 hours 37 minutes 13 seconds.
- In 2014, he completed the 12.8 km Boston Light Swim in 3 hours 28 minutes 13 seconds in 15°C water.
- In 2014, he competed in the FINA World Masters Open Water Swimming Championships 3 km race, finishing in 47:22.2
- In 2015, he finished 5th overall in the 2015 Global Swim Series.
- In 2016, he swam a mile in each of the Great Lakes of Canada together with Madhu Nagaraja, Mauro Campanelli, Lynn De Lathouwer Rodgers, Bud Seawright, Hilda Leahy, and Geoff Farrow.
- In August 2016, he completed the 52 km Marilyn Bell route across Lake Ontario, ending in Toronto ratified by Solo Swims Ontario with swim master Shaun Chisholm and support crew Madhu Nagaraja in 18 hours 35 minutes 8 seconds in 22°C water. Prior to this crossing, he completed a Solo Swims Ontario trial swim of 18.5 km from Burlington Beach to Oakville in Canada in 5 hours 52 minutes.
- In February 2018, he participated in the Memphremagog Winter Swim Festival in Lake Memphremagog, Vermont.
- In 2018, he made an unsuccessful attempt of the 33.5 km English Channel.
- On 12 August 2019, he completed a 33.5 km crossing of the English Channel from Abbot’s Cliff in England to Cap Gris Nez in France in 12 hours 2 minutes under the Channel Swimming & Piloting Federation with support crew Andrew King and escort pilots Simon Ellis and Marilyn Critchley in 16-18°C water.
- He has completed the 10 km Bridge to Bridge Swim in San Francisco Bay, California in 1 hour 24 minutes 5.8 seconds in 21°C water.
- He competed in the North Shore Challenge in Hawaii
- He twice completed the 10 km El Cruce in Cancún, Mexico.
- He is a co-founder the Great Lakes Trust and the GLOW open water adventures with Madhu Nagaraja to fund responsible water stewardship and inspire the next generation of Great Lake swimmers.
- He participated in workouts with L.O.S.T. Swimming (Lake Ontario Swim Team).
- He co-founded and serves as the Director of GLOW or Great Lakes Open Water adventures in Lake Ontario, Canada.
- He is co-founder of the Great Lakes Trust.
- He is a SwimDrinkFish ambassador.
- On 27 September 2021, he completed a 32.3 km crossing of the Catalina Channel from Doctor's Cove on Santa Catalina Island to the Southern California mainland in 11 hours 50 minutes, and 23 seconds with escort kayakers Barbara Schumacher and Patricio Libenson, and escort crew members Gabe Acosta, Isabella Jaramille onboard the Pacific Star with observers Qing Li and Jodi DiLascio.
