2014 World Open Water Swimming Offering of the Year Nomination
"The Greatest Englishman by Marathon Films is a dramatic, inspirational film about Captain Matthew Webb and his historic crossing of the English Channel in 1875. The producers at Marathon Films, who include English Channel swimmer James Salter, create films that tell the eccentric stories of heroes who changed the world. Captain Webb most certainly transformed the mindset of endurance athletes and adventurers, both on land and in the water. The film intersperses scenes of Captain Webb swimming in the Channel with flashbacks to explore his motives and the character traits that drove him to tackle the unknown and the unprecedented. For capturing the inspirational life of Captain Webb in bold living color, for bringing to the modern screen the era and mindset of one of the world's greatest adventurers, an icon in the open water world, The Greatest Englishman is a worthy nominee for the 2014 World Open Water Swimming Offering of the Year."
