Mark Sheridan is a 48-year-old British open water swimmer from Sevenoaks, Kent in the UK. He writes a popular blog to help educate swimmers including the Front Crawl Technique and achieved the Triple Crown of Open Water Swimming.
Open Water Swimming Career Highlights
- On 18 June 2022, he finished 10th at the Extreme North Dakota Watersports Endurance Test (END-WET) down-river 57.9 km marathon swim from Belmont Park, North Dakota into East Grand Forks, Minnesota along the Red River of the North in 9 hours 40 minutes at the age of 48.
- He has completed two channels of the Oceans Seven.
- He served as the British Long Distance Swimming Association Honorary President in 2017.
- He is one of only a few people to have completed the entire British Long Distance Swimming Association calendar.
- He completed the 2015 S.C.A.R. Swim Challenge in Arizona
- He served as the swim secretary/race director of the BLDSA 9-mile Champion of Champions event in Dover Harbour, U.K.
- He served at the swim secretary/race director of the BLDSA 21-mile Two Way Windermere Swim.
- He completed a crossing of the Catalina Channel in 12 hours 22 minutes 33 seconds on 6 October 2015.
- He completed a crossing of the English Channel in 14 hours 33 minutes in 2014
- He completed a 21-mile Two Way Windermere crossing in 13 hours 29 minutes in 2013
- He became the 44th person to swim Loch Lomond in Scotland in 14 hours 44 minutes in 2012
- He completed a crossing of the English Channel in 13 hours 32 minutes on 2 September 2015
- He became the first British athlete to complete a 69 km crossing of Lake Geneva, taking 33 hours 6 minutes to join the 24-hour Club on 18-19 July 2016
- He competed in the 2017 S.C.A.R. Swim Challenge in Arizona: Saguaro Lake, 29th overall in 4 hours 18 minutes + Canyon Lake, 29th overall in 4 hours 35 minutes + Roosevelt Lake, 28th overall in 3 hours 39 minutes.
- On 26 August 2017, he finished 9th overall in the 12 km LGSA Classic Swim across Lac Léman from Lausanne to Évian-les-Bains, crossing the Swiss border into France.
- He was nominated for the Streeter Award for Service to Marathon Swimming in 2017 by the Marathon Swimmers Forum.
- He coaches at the 2018 BLDSA Distance Weekend.
- He completed the 20 Bridges Swim around Manhattan Island in New York City on 1 June 2019, finishing in 7 hours 52 minutes 27 seconds at the age of 44 to achieve the Triple Crown of Open Water Swimming.
- On 16 July 2019, he finished the 25-mile (40.2 km) In Search of Memphre across Lake Memphremagog from Newport, Vermont to Magog, Quebec, Canada at the age of 46 in 13 hours 8 minutes.
- On 16 July 2019, he finished the 25-mile (40.2 km) In Search of Memphre across Lake Memphremagog from Newport, Vermont to Magog, Quebec, Canada at the age of 47 in 13 hours 8 minutes became the first amateur British open water swimmer to swim the length of the lake.
- He is entered into the 57.9 km END-WET in North Dakota to Minnesota on 18 June 2022 at the age of 48.
Honors
- Sheridan received the Diamond Jubilee Special Award for his 2016 crossing of Lake Geneva from the British Long Distance Swimming Association.
- He received the Barra Award for the most impressive year of marathon swimming by the Marathon Swimmers Federation in 2015.
