Martha Wood (born 2 October 1962) is a 60-year-old American open water swimmer and winter swimmer from Manchester-by-the-Sea, Massachusetts who competes in a number of open water swims and occasionally trains with the Nahant Knuckleheads. She was a former water polo player from Harvard University.
Open Water Swimming Highlights
- She represented the USA at the IISA 5th World Championship in Samoëns, France between 11-15 January 2023 at the age of 60.
- She finished 2nd in the 60-64 age group and was 24th overall in the 1000m freestyle in 17:33.26 in 3.70°C water and 2.00°C air temperature.
- She finished 2nd in the 60-64 age group and was 19th overall in the 500m freestyle in 7:54.60 in 3.70°C water and 2.00°C air temperature.
- She won the 60-64 age group and was 15th overall in the 100m backstroke, setting an age group world record in 1:29.34 in 3.70°C water and 2.00°C air temperature.
- She won the 60-64 age group and was 27th overall in the 100m freestyle, setting an age group world record in 1:21.96.
- She finished 2nd in the 60-64 age group and was 17th overall in the 250m freestyle in 3:45.94.
- On 16 December 2020 at M Street Beach in Boston, Massachusetts, she completed an Ice Mile in 3.98°C water and -10.60°C air, swimming 1.12 miles in 31 minutes 18 seconds.
- On 6 August 2022, she completed a 33.5 km crossing of the English Channel from England to France in 12 hours 25 minutes at the age of 59.
- On 10 July 2022, she completed the Body Brain Confusion Swim at the Cork Distance Week in Cork, Ireland.

- She participated in the 3-mile Triple Dip in Coney Island in September 2017.
- She finished 2nd in the 25 km Border Buster in 8 hours 45 minutes 43 seconds, escorted by Doug Bogle.
- She nearly completed an Ice Mile in 1°C on 20 February 2019 after swimming 26 minutes and 18 of the required 22 Fences at the L Street Bathhouse in Boston Harbor, Massachusetts.
- She won the 200m freestyle at the 2020 Memphremagog Winter Swim Festival in Vermont, USA on 29 February 2020.
- She completed her first Ice Mile on 16 December 2020 in M Street Beach in Boston, Massachusetts in 3.98°C water with a -10.60°C wind chill. She swam 1.12 miles in 31 minutes 18 seconds in the Boston Harbor with Observer Rena Demeo and Witness Elaine Howley.
- She is a member of the Board of Directors of the IISA USA (or International Ice Swimming Association USA), the governing body of ice swimming within the USA that functions under the auspices of the International Ice Swimming Association.
- On 26-29 April 2022, he will compete in the SCAR Swim, a 4-day stage swim in Arizona.
