On 18 August 2012, he completed a 19.6 km crossing of the Santa Barbara Channel from Anacapa Island to the California mainland in 5 hours 48 minutes 9 seconds in a tandem swim with Walter Bean Scott under the auspices of the Santa Barbara Channel Swimming Association.
