Mihir Sen (মিহির সেন) (16 November 1930 - 11 June 1997) from India was a barrister from India who was inducted in the International Marathon Swimming Hall of Fame as an Honour Swimmer in 1966. In 1958, Sen became the first Indian to swim across the English Channel. He distinguished himself crossing six major straits in 1966: the Palk Strait between Dhanushkodi, India and Sri Lanka in 25 hours 36 minutes, the Strait of Gibraltar between Spain and Morocco, 51.5 km (32 miles) across the Dardanelles from Gallipoli to Sendulbahir, Turkey, 50 miles across the length of the Panama Canal from the Atlantic Ocean to the Pacific Ocean in 35 hours 30 minutes, and 32 km (20 miles) across the Bosphorus (Istanbul Strait) in Turkey. He is also a member of the 24-hour club.

Awards and Honors

Sen was awarded the Padma Shree in 1959 by Prime Minister Jawaharlal Nehru and Padma Bhushan in 1966 by Prime Minister Indira Gandhi.
