Nial Funchion

Nial Funchion is a Chicago policeman veteran and an open water swimmer who has achieved the Triple Crown of Open Water Swimming. He is currently ranked 18th in the global Oceans Seven list while calling attention to his fallen comrades and raising money via Beyond Break Walls.

Open Water Swimming Career Highlights

He completed the 14.4 km crossing of the Strait of Gibraltar from Tarifa, Spain to Morocco at the age of 45 with the purpose of raising funds and awareness for fallen police officers
He completed a 33.5 km crossing of the English Channel from England to France at the age of 35
He completed the 45.9 km Manhattan Island Marathon Swim on 23 June 2012
He completed a 32.3 km crossing of the Catalina Channel from Santa Catalina Island to the Southern California mainland in August 2013.
In 2009, he completed the 26.2-mile (42.1 km) Chicago Skyline Swim in 14 hours.
He coaches age group swimmers, high school swimmers, collegiate swimmers, and open water swimmers including English Channel swimmers for 15 years.
