Nick Owen
Nick Owen is a 50-year-old Australian open water swimmer who completed an unprecedented two-way crossing of Port Phillip Bay in Melbourne, Australia, together with Dr. Melinda Kemp, Ingilby Dickson, David Verlinden and Sam Paynter on 27 January 2013. The 7.8 km swim took 2 hours 22 minutes between Point Nepean and Pt Lonsdale.
Owen swam with Cheltenham swimming club as a youngster, and Mentone grammar school, one of the premier swimming schools in Victoria. He was a member of Beaumaris Lifesaving Club, completing for years in the Port Phillip Bay. He is also an associated member of Lorne Lifesaving Club.
Brighton Icebergers
He is a member of the Brighton Icebergers and swims regularly throughout the winter. He has twice completed the 11.2 km Bloody Big Swim. winning the non-wetsuit competition once and finished third in the over -40 non-wetsuit division in the 26.4 km International Self-Transcendence Marathon-Schwimmen in Switzerland.
Half Century Club
On 12 September 2013, he also joined the Half Century Club when he completed the English Channel in 11 hours 36 minutes on 13 September 2013 under the escort of pilot Peter Reed, his wife Libby, Garrick Higgins, Dr. Melinda Kemp, and Dr. Jeff Fine on board the Rowena.
