noun - The Oceans Grand Slam is a open water swimming solo challenge to complete the Oceans Seven in addition to completing a 1 km Ice Kilometer anywhere within the Arctic Circle or in Antarctica in the Southern Ocean. The Oceans Grand Slam is open water swimming's equivalent of the Explorers Grand Slam or Adventurers Grand Slam.

Origin

  • The Explorers Grand Slam or the Adventurers Grand Slam is an solo challenge to reach the North Pole, the South Pole and complete all of the mountaineering Seven Summits.
  • Oceans Grand Slam was inspired by a report on the Explorer Grand Slam (see here) and was coined by Steven Munatones in June 2017.

1. Lynton Mortensen (Australia) completed the Oceans Seven on 14 November 2018 and a Polar Ice Swim in Longyearbyen, Svalbard, Norway (78.22°N) on 5 May 2022

2. Kieron Palframan (South Africa) completed the Oceans Seven on 6 October 2023 and a 1.54 km Polar Ice Swim in Neko Harbour, Antarctica, as part of the Antarctic Circle Ice Challenge on 1 March 2014 in 33:00 in -1°C water and -5°C air temperature

3. Bárbara Hernández Huerta (Chile) completed the Oceans Seven on 13 June 2024 and a 2.2 km Polar Ice Swim in Chile Bay, Antarctica in 2.23°C water and 2.90°C air in 45:30 on 5 February 2023

4. Paul Georgescu (Romania) completed the Oceans Seven on 27 July 2024 and did a Polar Ice Swim in Hanusse Bay, Antarctica on 22 February 2020]

5. Petar Stoychev (Bulgaria) completed the Oceans Seven on 14 August 2024 and did a Polar Ice Swim in Mikkelsen Harbour, Antarctica (63.50°S) on 24 November 2018
