Paolo Chiarino is a 55-year-old Italian triathlete and ice swimmer since 2012 and an Ice Ironman from Cremella.

Open Water Swimming Career Highlights

• He has competed in winter swimming competitions and at near 0°C water temperature in Latvia, Tyumen, Murmansk, Estonia and Argentina.
• He participated in the Bering Strait Swim between Russia and the USA.
• He participated in the 1000m race at the inaugural Ice Swimming World Championships in Murmansk, Russia.
• For conditioning and mental preparation, he competed in Czech Republic, Slovakia, Burghausen, Germany London, Tallinn, Estonia and Murmansk, Russia.
• He completed an Ice Mile on 6 January 2015 in Lago di Montorfano, Italy in 4.2°C water, finishing in 40 minutes 56 seconds.
• On 11 January 2015, he completed an Ice Kilometer at the 1st Aqua Sphere Ice Swimming Championships in Burghausen, Germany in 18 minutes 18 seconds in 4.8°C water.
• On 20 March 2015, he completed an Ice Kilometer at the IISA 1st World Championships in Lake Semenovskoye, Murmansk, Russia in 18 minutes 25 seconds in 0.08°C water and -5°C air temperature.
• On 19 December 2015, he completed an Ice Kilometer at the River Labe CZ Ice Swimming Championships in Hradec Kralove, Czech Republic in 22 minutes 29 seconds in 4.6°C water and 6°C air temperature.
• On 18 December 2016, he completed an Ice Kilometer at the ICE Cup (D+A) in Vienna, Austria in 16 minutes 44.49 seconds in 4.4°C water and -2°C air temperature.
• He competed in the inaugural 1000m International Ice Swimming Championship in Lake Semenovskoe in Murmansk, Russia in 0.8ºC under the auspices of the International Ice Swimming Association.
• He serves as the first chairman of International Ice Swimming Association Italy.
• He successfully completed the Antarctica Ice Kilometer Swim in Port Lockroy along the Antarctic Peninsula in the Southern Ocean on 24 November 2018 in 14:15:85 with 44-year-old Samantha Whelpton of South Africa, 41-year-old Alexander Brylin of Russia, 55-year-old Yunfeng Wang of China, 44-year-old Leszek Naziemiec of Poland, 54-year-old Andrey Agarkov of Russia, and 51-year-old Sergio Salomone of Argentina.
• He serves as a member of the selection panel of the Ice Swimming Hall of Fame.
• He was named one of the World's 50 Most Adventurous Open Water Men in 2018 by the World Open Water Swimming Association.
• In May 2022, he completed an Ice Kilometer at the Svalbard Ice Swimming Adventures, held in Svalbard, Norway within the Arctic Circle in -1.00°C water and 0.00°C air temperatures at the age of 55.

Antarctica Ice Kilometer Swim

44-year-old Samantha Whelpton of South Africa successfully competes in the Antarctica Ice Kilometer Swim held on 24 November 2018 in Port Lockroy along the Antarctic Peninsula together with 41-year-old Alexander Brylin of Russia, 55-year-old Yunfeng Wang of China, 44-year-old Leszek Naziemiec of Poland, 52-year-old Paolo Chiarino of Italy, 54-year-old Andrey Agarkov of Russia, and 51-year-old Sergio Salomone of Argentina.
45-year-old Clinton Le Sueur of South Africa, 46-year-old Diego López Dominguez of Spain, 42-year-old Wyatt Song of Australia, 42-year-old Petar Stoychev of Bulgaria, 25-year-old Victoria Mori of Argentina, 46-year-old Madswimmer founder Jean Craven of South Africa, and the 61-year-old International Ice Swimming Association founder Ram Barkai of South Africa completed the Antarctica Ice Kilometer Swim in Mikkelsen Bay in the Southern Ocean along the Antarctic Peninsula on 25 November 2018.

Endurance Athletic Career

• Chiarino completed in two Ironman triathlons in Zurich and Lanzarote to become an Ice Ironman.
• Chiarino completed one 4-day Ultraman Ironman in Canada (Day 1, 10 km swim 150 km Bike + Day 2, 265 km Bike + Day 4, 84 km Run).
• Chiarino completed one Trans Swiss triathlon (longer than an Ironman triathlon).

The Bering Strait Swim was selected as the 2014 World Open Water Swimming Performance of the Year in a global poll managed by the World Open Water Swimming Association.
