verb - Positioning is the means to move to a place or location, often strategic and intentional, but occasionally unintentional or accidental, where an open water swimmer or triathlete finds himself during an open water swimming competition or triathlon. It is one element of the concept of interleaving in the training of open water swimmers and triathletes.

Usage

The coach stressed to the swimmer the need to hold her positioning around the turn buoys on the last loop.
