Rotto

Rotto or Rottnest is the local vernacular for Rottnest Island and is located 18 kilometers off the coast of Western Australia, near Fremantle. It is called Wadjemup by the Noongar people, meaning "place across the water". The island is 11 kilometers long, and 4.5 kilometers at its widest point with a total land area of 19 km². It is the finish location of the annual Rottnest Channel Swim and is managed by the Rottnest Island Authority.
It has been an important local holiday destination for over 50 years. The Rottnest Island Authority collects revenue by imposing alanding fee" on all visitors to the island.
Open Water Swimming
- Ceinwen Williams Roberts and Rohan Hollick completed an unprecedented 59.2 km triple crossing of the Rottnest Channel in March 2014 between Rottnest Island and Cottesloe Beach on behalf of Walk Free in 18 hours 48 minutes.
- It is the site of the finish of the annual Rottnest Channel Swim.
