Samir Botelho Barel is an open water swimmer and coach from São Paulo, Brazil. He is the first Brazilian to complete the Triple Crown of Open Water Swimming (Tríplice Coroa).
Open Water Swimming Career
- he competes on the FINA Open Water Swimming Grand Prix pro circuit including the 59th annual 34 km Traversée internationale du lac St-Jean in Roberval, Québec, Canada on 25 July 2013
- he completed the 28.5-mile (45.8 km) Manhattan Island Marathon Swim in 7:17:59 to finish second in 2014
- he completed a 21-mile crossing of the English Channel in 10 hours 14 minutes in 2015
- he completed a crossing of the 20.2-mile (33.7 km) Catalina Channel on 29 September 2016 in 8 hours 45 minutes to complete the Triple Crown of Open Water Swimming (Tríplice Coroa)
- he finished 10th in the 2017 57 km Maratón Acuática Internacional Santa Fe – Coronda in Argentina
- he was a member of the relay team called Elo Academia 1 (Brazil) that completed the 36 km Travessia do Leme ao Pontal on 20 February 2017 in 12 hours 16 minutes with Samir Botelho Barel and Helio Araujo Padilha Junior
- he attempted a 64 km swim across the Bodensee on 21 August 2017, completing nearly 32 km.
- he finished 20th overall on the 2017 FINA Open Water Swimming Grand Prix professional marathon swimming circuit.
- he finished fifth overall in the 2017 Travessia do Canal de Ilhabela on 30 October, off the coast of São Paulo state in Brazil.
- he was honored by Leme to Pontal Swimming Association in 2017.
- he coached Henrique Martins Santos to an 8 hour 17 minute completion of the 36 km Travessia do Leme ao Pontal on 16 December 2018.
- On 16 August 2021, he set a new 37 km BISA (Big Island Swimming Association) course record at the Ilha Grande in Rio de Janeiro, Brazil in 9 hours 46 minutes 47 seconds, breaking Ana Carolina Morelli's record of 12 hours 0 seconds.
