Slaven Šitić (born 18 March 1965 in Split) is the father and swimming coach of Karla Šitić, a professional marathon swimmer from Croatia. She qualified for the Olympic 10K Marathon Swim at the 2012 London Olympics and won 12th place. He is also father and coach of Ivana Šitić and Karla Šitić, who both compete on the FINA Open Water Swimming Grand Prix professional circuit, as well as Ivan Šitić, another promising young swimmer.
Open Water Swimming Highlights
- He was winner of the Faros Maratón in 1984 and was third in 1980 and 1982.
- He served as the Croatian Long Distance Swimming Federation National Team Head Coach between 2001 and 2014 and was President of the Long Distance Swimming Club SPLIT.
- He is an engineering professor specializing in welding. He has about 50 students in a 3-year program that prepares them for projects for Audi and Ferrari. His engineering prowess has enabled him to create all kinds of things including a boat and a 2-person submarine.
- He started a sailing team about 10 years and served as the Conditioning Coach for the Croatian National Sailing Team between 1991 and 1996.
- He coaches at an open water swimming camp in Croatia together with Josip Aralica, Lucija Aralica, Jakša Arambašić, and Dražen Adžić.
- He is the race director for the Croatia Open Water - Split 10K in Croatia.
- As a competitive swimmer for over 20 years, he was a 9-time National Champion of Yugoslavia and a National Record Holder, representing Yugoslavia in national and international competitions
- He served as coach of PK Jadran between 1991 and 1995.
- He has served as Head Coach of PK Grdelin since 1995
- He is the Founder, President, and Head Coach of KDP Split (Open Water Swimming Club Split)
- He coached Anita Galić at the 2004 Athens Olympics and Karla Šitić at the 2012 London Olympics.
- He coached Ivan Šitić as the 5 km Junior European Champion and Duje Milan as the 7.5 km Junior European Vice-Champion
- He pioneered and organized open water swimming in Croatia and was instrumental in establishing Croatia’s national open water swimming program
