Boston Harbor Swim

From Openwaterpedia

The Swim Across America Boston Harbor Swim (Boston Harbor Islands Swim) is a 22-mile marathon swimming relay around the Boston Harbor Islands on 8 July 2016. On event day, swimmers and volunteers meet at sunrise at Rowes Wharf outside the Boston Harbor Hotel. They board onto two boats named 'Mon Amour,' and 'Secret Love.' After spending the day swimming and hanging out with friends on board, all swimmers jump off the boats and swim to shore. There is a maximum of 80 swimmers. The event has raised hundreds of thousands of dollars for the Perini Quality of Life Clinic at the Dara-Farber Hospital.

Kitty Tetreault is the race organizer of this charity swim. The Swim Across America event is one of America's Top 100 Open Water Swims.

Relay

Each participant will swim in a 15-minute session (heat) approximately 4 - 6 times throughout the day. Swimmers will be assigned to a heat with swimmers of similar ability. All swimmers will be assigned to a transport boat for the day. Breakfast, lunch, beverages and snacks will be provided throughout the day.

Approximate duration is 8 hours with each heat contains 8 - 10 swimmers. Swimmers serving as alternates will be available throughout the day for substitutions.

Heats have been arranged according to swimmer’s 500 yard /1 mile freestyle times. It is important for each swimmer to know his /her assigned heat number. The heat order may change throughout the swim to handle the varying conditions. For instance, the conditions or time constraints may require the substitution of a stronger heat.
