Dr. Tessa Garside, PhD is a 36-year-old Australian triathlete and open water swimmer from Sydney’s Royal North Shore Hospital where she works in the Intensive Care Unit.
Open Water Swimming Highlights
- On 15 April 2018, she completed a 19.7 km Rottnest Channel Swim in 5 hours 37 minutes at the age of 30.
- On 18 July 2022, she completed a 33.5 km crossing of the English Channel from England to France in 10 hours 14 minutes at the age of 34.
- On 30 September 2024, she completed a 32.3 km crossing of the Catalina Channel from Santa Catalina Island to the Palos Verdes Peninsula in Southern California in 10 hours 41 minutes 17 seconds at the age of 36 with the escort of captain Dave Harvey and coach Tim Denyer to complete the Triple Crown of Open Water Swimming. Her mother and escort kayaker Frances Garside, escort kayaker John Trevino, Greg Pierce, and CCSF observers Bob Needham and Marc Horwitz were onboard the Pacific Star. The last 4 km of the crossing was in 15°C water.
- She is the record holder for the 15 km Cold Half marathon swim on Hong Kong Island.
