Toks Viviers is an extreme open water swimmer and an Ice Zero Swimmer from Cape Town, South Africa. Viviers was a member of the successful Patagonia Extreme Cold Water Challenge which was a series of three extreme cold-water swims at the tip of South Africa by five South African men: Ryan Stramrood (37 years), Kieron Palframan (36), Toks Viviers (47), Ram Barkai (53) and Andrew Chin (41). Their efforts were nominated for the 2011 World Open Water Swimming Performance of the Year.

Stramrood, Palframan, Viviers, Barkai and Chin are all members of the International Ice Swimming Association and were inspired by Lynne Cox's book, Swimming to Antarctica. During the Patagonia Extreme Cold Water Challenge, they successfully completed three extremely cold-water swims in 12 days: 2 kilometers in the Beagle Channel, 2.5 kilometer double crossing of the Strait of Magellan (4°C) and 2.5 kilometers around Cape Horn.

All the swims were done in rough water, against strong currents and in water less than 8°C.

He was a member of the successful, unprecedented 6-day Bering Strait Swim relay, a 54-mile (86 km) relay crossing from Cape Dezhnev in Chukotka, Russia, to Cape Prince of Wales in the state of Alaska, USA which was nominated for the Night Jar Travel Adventurers of the Year (South Africa).

Bering Strait Swim

Viviers was a member of the successful, unprecedented, 6-day Bering Strait Swim relay, a 54-mile (86 km) relay crossing from Cape Dezhnev in Chukotka, Russia, to Cape Prince of Wales in the state of Alaska, USA.

World Open Water Swimming Performance of the Year

The Bering Strait Swim was selected as the 2014 World Open Water Swimming Performance of the Year in a global poll managed by the World Open Water Swimming Association.

Antarctic Circle Ice Challenge

He is a member of the Antarctic Circle Ice Challenge together with Andrew Chin, Ryan Stramrood, Kieron Palframan, Gavin Pike, and Ram Barkai. Ryan Stramrood, Ram Barkai and Kieron Palframan attempted an Ice mile in Neko Harbour in Antarctica. Andrew Chin completed a 1 km swim while Viviers and Gavin Pike completed an ice mile in Paradise Harbour in Antarctica in -1ºC (40.2ºF) water in March 2014 amid orcas, icebergs, and leopard seals.

In January 2015, he and Andrew Chin swam 200 km in the Wilge River in the Free State over a period of 10 days as part of the Rivers for Life project in South Africa.
