Bill Borger

Bill Borger Jr. (born 15 December 1974) is a Calgary-based businessman, adventurer, and Canadian Chartered Accountant and President of the Borger Group of Companies.

Extreme Sports Career Highlights

• In 1996, Borger cycled across Canada in 32 days.
• On 23 July 2000, he finished 7th in the 26.4 km International Self-Transcendence Marathon-Schwimmen in Switzerland in 8 hours 52 minutes 45 seconds at the age of 25.
• On 9 September 2000 Borger became the first Canadian from Calgary to successfully swim the English Channel in 12 hours 11 minutes. As a part of the English Channel swim Borger raised $100,000 for the Canadian Mental Health Association. It was his second attempt.
• On 11 May 2011 Borger became the first Canadian to have both swum the English Channel and to reportedly have summited Mt. Everest to achieve the Peak and Pond Challenge. The Mt. Everest climb was used to raise funds for the Calgary Handibus Association; for this charity Borger raised $502,350. Note: Borger claims that he summited Mount Everest on 12 May 2011. However, the authoritative Himalayan database is clear that he did not reach the summit, although he apparently came very close. To clarify this discrepancy, he was contacted by the International Marathon Swimming Hall of Fame to clarify via email in May 2025.
• From 2009 to 2011, he climbed over 40 peaks in North and South America, Asia, and Europe including Mount Rainier and Mount McKinley in North America and The Matterhorn and Mont Blanc in Europe.
• On 14 July 2012 Bill Borger along with climbing partner John Furneaux set a new route during their summit of Mount Thor that they named, The Great Escape. This climb was also the first free climb of the Southwest Buttress.
