Francisco Aguirre

Francisco Aguirre is an open water swimmer from Santiago, Chile born in 1979. He is a member of the FullMar-Viña swimming club and a Co-Founder of Chile Open Water Swimming. He was the first person to complete the Chilean Triple Crown in 2024.

Open Water Swimming Highlights

  • On the 10th April 2018 he completed a wetsuit swim across the Straits of Magellan in Chile in 1 hour 14 minutes 52 seconds.
  • On the 4th September 2021 he completed a 16km crossing of the Bonifacio Strait from Sardinia (Italy) to Corsica (France) in a time of 5 hours 56 minutes.
  • On the 20th June 2023 he completed a crossing of the Strait of Gibraltar in 3 hour 44 minutes.
  • On the 17th February 2024 he completed the 22km Jimmy Rasmussen "Pucón to Villarrica" open water event along Lago Villarrica in 6hrs 31mins. The event forms part of the 2024 GranPrix Austral Series of swimming races.
  • On the 24th February 2024 he completed a 15 km ocean swim from Playa Boca in Concón to Playa Caleta Abarca in Viña del Mar, Chile with Australian Ross Youngman in 5hrs 53mins 15secs in support of the Bush Fire Victims of Valparaiso. The swim was supported by Chilean marathon swimmer Julieta Nuñez who also organises marathon swims in South America including the Straits of Magellan, Beagle Channel and Lake Titicaca.
  • On July 25 2024 he completed the 45.9 km 20 Bridges Manhattan Island Swim in 8 hours 12 minutes.
  • On September 4 2024 he completed the 32 km Catalina Channel in California in 12 hours 38 minutes.
