Craig Stevens (born 23 July 1980) is an Australian competitive swimmer who specialized in the 400m, 800m and 1500m freestyle.

Swimming Highlights

  • He won a bronze medal in the 1500m freestyle at the 2002 Commonwealth Games.
  • He finished 4th in the 400m freestyle at the 2002 Commonwealth Games.
  • He won a silver medal in the 4x200m freestyle relay at the 2004 Athen Olympic Games.
  • He made the final heat in the 1500m freestyle at the 2004 Athen Olympic Games.
  • After the 2004 Australian Olympic Trials, he relinquished his place in the 400m freestyle for world record holder Ian Thorpe who went on to win a gold medal in the event.
  • He replaced Ian Thorpe in the 400m freestyle at the 2006 Commonwealth Games due to illness and finished 4th in the event.
  • He finished 6th in the 1500m freestyle at the 2006 Commonwealth Games.
  • In March 2007, he won a bronze medal at the FINA World Championships in the 800m freestyle in 7:48.67. After the disqualification of Oussama Mellouli, Stevens was elevated to a silver medal, but he never received the medal.
  • He finished 6th in the 1500m freestyle at the 2007 FINA World Championships in 14:59.11.
  • He raced in the 400m freestyle at the 2008 Beijing Olympic Games, but did not make the finals.
  • He raced in the 1500m freestyle at the 2008 Beijing Olympic Games, but did not make the finals.
  • He is currently head swimming coach at Sans Souci Leisure Centre in Sans Souci, New South Wales, Australia.
