Kimberly Rutherford

Kimberly Rutherford is a 60-year-old American ice swimmer, governing body administrator, and open water swimmer from Capitola, California. She is a board member of the Monterey Bay Swimming Association.

Rutherford is the co-founder of the Monterey Swimming Association along with Scott Tapley, Patti Bauernfeind and Joel Wilson. The Monterey Bay Swimming Association is dedicated to supporting those who wish to undertake marathon and ultra-marathon swims in the Monterey Bay. The MBSA is available to observe and sanction swims and is dedicated to the safety, integrity, and accurate documentation of these swims and to preserve the traditions of marathon swimming by following internationally recognized rules and standards.

On 25 September 2010, she completed a 19.6 km crossing from Anacapa Island to the California mainland in 8 hours 18 minutes 49 seconds at the age of 51.
On 21 September 2011, she completed a 42.4 km crossing of the Catalina Channel from Santa Catalina Island to the Southern California mainland in 12 hours 22 minutes 49 seconds at the age of 52.
On 6 September 2014, she swam 40.4 km across Monterey Bay in California in 22 hours 6 minutes at the age of 55. It was the third solo crossing of Monterey Bay in history on her third attempt.
On 8 September 2016, she finished 11th overall in the 28.5-mile (45.8 km) 20 Bridges Circumnavigation Swim of Manhattan in New York City, finishing in 8 hours 52 minutes 10 seconds at the age of 58.
On 23 August 2019, she finished the 10.4-mile (16.8 km) Strait of Juan de Fuca between Olympic Peninsula in Washington and Vancouver Island in British Columbia, Canada finishing in 10 hours 22 minutes 4 seconds at the age of 59.

Rutherford coached Scott Tapley across the Catalina Channel on 16 August 2014 and served as channel swimming support crew for Joseph Locke on his 14 hour 58 minute channel crossing from the Farallon Islands to the Golden Gate Bridge in July 2014.

She completed her ice mile on 2 March 2014 in 4.40°C water + 0.00°C air for 1.10 miles in 45:20 together with Scott Tapley.
