noun - Long distance swimming are swims that are generally done in open bodies of water over a certain distance or time. Swims up to 10K (6.2 mi) in distance is one standard, but long distance swims can be of any distance may take place in pools or lidos. Ultra long distance swimming is generally considered to be at least 25 km (15.5 mi) in distance, but it is occasionally referred to as Marathon swimming which is generally considered to be 10 km at a minimum.

Long distance swims can be solo swims by a single individual, a relay, a Stage swim or events or competitions that involve many participants.
