Swims
- Beagle Channel via the 5-mile Lynne Cox route from Port Navarino to Port Ushuaia between 3-9 December 2017.
- Beagle Channel between Glacier Italia on Tierra del Fuego and Gordon Island in Chile, a 2 km crossing.
- A 5 km Straits of Magellan crossing between 24-29 November 2017.
- 2 km Cape Horn swim between 9-15 November 2017.
Objectives
- Organize solo crossings of the Straits of Magellan and the Beagle Channel providing swimmer guidance, boat/crossing safety, support and historical data.
- Promote interest in the sport of open water swimming world-wide and assist organizations and swimmers to attempt such swims in all possible ways.
- Promote the safety and welfare of the swimmer.
- Advise and furnish information to those intending to do our swims.
- Apply for any permissions and governmental requirements the swim may necessitate.
- Observe and authenticate swimmers who complete their swims.
Principals
- Cristian Vergara is an open water swimmer from Chile. Since 2000, he has completed marathon swims such as the 28.5-mile Manhattan Island Marathon Swim (MIMS) (28 miles) the English Channel and extreme swims such as crossings of the Straits of Magellan and the Beagle Channel, Lake Titicaca in Bolivia and various winter swimming events in Finland, China, USA, Argentina and Russia. He represented Chile in the Bering Strait International Swimming Relay and was a founding member and the Executive Director for 8 years of the Coney Island Brighton Beach Open Water Swimmers (CIBBOWS). He organized and was race director for various new swim events for the organization, including a United States Masters Swimming 5K National Championship. He was responsible for the open water race course and safety for the 2011 Police and Fire International Games in New York City and has organized private swims, obtaining the necessary permits from the relevant authorities, providing safety plan and all necessary logistic support.
- Julieta Nuñez has been an open water swimmer since 2003, participating in more than 100 events in Chile and abroad including Alcatraz Island (USA), from Máncora to Vichayito (Peru), Lake Titicaca (Bolivia), Bosphorus (Turkey), several swims in Argentina, across the Strait of Magellan and the Beagle Channel several times, four swims in the Chilean Antarctica. swam 15-20 km ocean swims. She has been recognized as one of the 100 women leaders from Chile by El Mercurio newspaper, named one of the Sports Heroines by newspaper La Tercera, named outstanding woman of her region, and starred in several television and documentary programs about her connection to the sea. She founded the first open water club in Viña del Mar and served as its president for two years. She formed the first open water club in Concón and is the current president. She has organized numerous competitions in Valparaiso, Viña del Mar and Concón. Every year she organizes a national competition in the Bay of Concón with 70 to 100 participants, both from Chile and neighboring countries. Her experience has led her to become coach for young swimmers and serve as their escort guide. She speaks three languages including German, Spanish and English and she is a certified sports and shellfish diver. Currently is president of the local fishermen's union (San Pedro de Concón) and an ocean lifeguard since 2004.

For providing expert swimmer guidance, escort boats, safety, and logistical support in some of the world's most risky open water swims, for promoting interest in Patagonia swimming and extreme swimming in South America, and for observing and authenticating official swims by swimmers of all ages and abilities, Patagonia Swim by Cristian Vergara and Julieta Núñez Gundlach is a worthy nominee for the 2018 World Open Water Swimming Offering of the Year.
